2 LIME WEDGES
SPRIG OF MINT
25ML JUNIPER-RICH GIN OR

Collecting in stores

Organising collections in Stores

Applying for In Store Collections

Supermarkets have different preferences for making an application to hold a collection in store. Here are some examples:-
Tesco – register online at www.tasteattesco.   Once you register, then you will be guided through the steps to make an application for collections in your area, availability permitting.
Collections during December and bag packs throughout the year can be organised directly by contacting the Community Champion in each store.
ASDA – obtain an application form in store from the Community Champion.
Morrisons – write directly to store’s Community Champion
Sainsburys – write to the store’s Manager.

Collections should always be supervised by an official myaware volunteer or a myaware member of staff. When recruiting helpers to assist with the collection, why not advertise your collection to your friends, family and wider networks to help!

If you would like to take photos of the helpers on the day, please ensure they complete a myaware Photo Consent form. This means we will be able to share the photos on our social media pages, our website and in our newsletter.

After the event it is very important to contact the store as quickly as possible after your collection date to thank them for allowing you to collect on their premises. You should let them know how much was raised and thank the staff for their help and assistance. Also let your helpers know how much has been raised (in accordance with contact consent information).

There are more useful tips to view in our downloadable, handy guide to organising a store collection.

Organising a street collection

Organising a street collection on behalf of myaware

Street collections work best for groups where one person is designated the leader. Where possible, street collections should be supervised by a myaware-trained volunteer or member of staff. Street collections are ideal for clubs and groups, university students or work colleagues, who all know each other and who want to take part in a one-off fundraising activity.

Fancy dress is a brilliant way to attract attention as is a busy location in a town centre. Myaware will provide collecting tins, leaflets and t-shirts, just let the Fundraising Team know how many you need. How you style the rest of your outfits is up to you!

Social Media Top Tips

Social media is an amazing way to reach a large audience and can boost all of your fundraising efforts. Here are a few handy tips that will make the most of your social media when promoting your fundraising.

1. Choose the social media platforms that work for you.
This might sound obvious, but choose a social media platform that you are comfortable with.

2. Promote with your personality
When using social media to promote your fundraising, you should never be afraid to inject your personality into your posts.

3. Always use pictures and videos to increase engagement
We have all been scrolling through Facebook and stopped at a video or picture that has caught our eye.

4. Using live streaming
Live streaming your event is a great way to engage with your audience and make donors feel like they are a part of the event.

5. Updates are essential
Don’t forget to celebrate your successes along the way! Set some fundraising benchmarks and post on your social media channels each time you meet one - make sure they are tied to the difference you’re making.

6. Thank your supporters
This is the most important tip when promoting your fundraising event through social media.

Promoting your event in the press

Top tips for writing your press release

Writing a press release can be a daunting task, but we are here to help with our handy hints and tips.

• Create a catchy title - What makes a journalist read your press release rather than someone else’s?

• It’s all about structure - Like any good story, a press release needs a structure to ensure success.

• Keep your content brief - Journalists get sent many press releases every day so you will need to keep your content short and sweet.

• Fun content is always the best content - You need to keep your content digestible and relatable.

• Tell your story - No one is better at telling your story than you are.

• Check your spelling - A press release with misspelt words and grammatical errors will never get past the most cursory of glances from journalists.

• Think about formatting - Press releases need to be easy to read with good formatting.

• Don’t be afraid to use images - We’ve all heard the saying – A picture paints a thousand words, and it’s true.

• Don’t forget your contact details - The worst thing for a journalist is having a great press release sent to you but not having the contact details for the author.

• Ask for help - Our Fundraising Team is always there to support you and your fundraising events.

When writing a press release, in a paragraph, write about your event and what motivated you to do it. This section is all about you so the more personal, the better. This should be written in first person.

Health & Safety tips

Organising a fundraising event for myaware is an enjoyable way to bring family, friends and communities together while supporting a great cause!
Please take some time to consider any risks that your activity might present, and also any regulations you should abide by. Here are some highlights of the areas you may need to consider. This is not a complete guide; it’s best to check with your local authority to make sure you’ve got everything covered.

Safeguarding and consent

If children and/or vulnerable people will be at your event, please ensure that you have taken appropriate safeguarding measures prior to the event.

Food hygiene

Food safety laws apply when food is available, whether it is for sale or not.

Licences and permissions

Ask your local authority whether or not you need to obtain any special licences (such as public entertainment, collection or alcohol licences).

Remember - Keep records of everything you do for future reference.

There are lots of other things to consider when organising your event, such as insurance and risk assessments, which may be a little daunting. Our helpful guide gives further details about these topics to make sure you have all the support you need. You can download the guide by clicking the link below
